Learning in Action

Today, we were delighted to welcome the Egyptian team from the Ipswich and Colchester Museum. We had a fantastic time exploring the various features of the River Nile. Next, we learned about the mummification process of a pharaoh, including which organs were placed in canopic jars. We then followed the pharaoh’s journey into the afterlife, wearing masks of Ancient Egyptian gods and discovering what each one represented. To end the day, we became mini curators, handling genuine artefacts from the museum. We did our best to answer as many questions as we could about each item.

On our first day back, we had the pleasure of visiting the Suffolk School Farm & Country Fair. The day was packed with fascinating experiences! We kicked things off with a fun tractor ride, followed by a session where we learned all about what’s needed to grow crops and how our food is produced—from field to fork. We saw a variety of farm animals, met the Coastguards and the Police, and even got to sample some delicious blood oranges and fresh strawberries. We also discovered how eggs are graded and learned the process of turning potatoes into crisps. To wrap up our day, just before heading home, we stopped by to learn about the amazing work of the Suffolk Beekeepers. It was a fun and educational day out!

The class participated in a STEM Music Workshop, where we created music using our laptops. It was a lot of fun! We used electrical currents to produce sound, and when we touched each other on the forehead or hands, it triggered a sound. It was an amazing experience!

On World Book Day, we went on a bug hunt during our science lesson. Our goal was to identify as many different species of invertebrates as we could.

Today, we had a great time enjoying our Christmas meal and wearing our festive jumpers. It was fun, though a bit too hot!

In science, we've been studying sound. We created pan pipes of different lengths, which changed the pitch, and we also filled jars with varying amounts of liquid to achieve similar effects on sound.
