Spelling helps with both reading and writing. Learning to spell helps to cement the connection between the letters and their sounds, and learning high-frequency “sight words” to mastery level improves both reading and writing.
In EYFS and Year 1 spellings are taught during the daily phonics is taught daily and is based on the Bug Club programme. In Key Stage 2 and Year 2, spelling is taught most days and is based upon the No Nonsense programme.
